A model for sustainable events

The festival is working with Minpact to cancel EU emission permits, setting a new benchmark for climate action in the event sector. The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) — the world’s largest carbon market — requires industries to hold allowances for every tonne of CO₂ emitted. Removing these allowances cuts emissions directly at their source.

  • Immediate: Reductions take effect as soon as allowances are deleted
  • Transparent: Simple, verifiable, and governed by EU law
  • Permanent: Deleted allowances cannot return

About the collaboration

Banff Scandinavia is using Minpact’s tools to offset emissions through permanent cancellation of EU carbon allowances. For every tonne of CO₂ created, an equal allowance is deleted from the EU ETS, ensuring those emissions cannot be released elsewhere.

Transparent climate action for events

With skepticism growing around traditional offsets, EU allowance deletion offers a transparent, scalable alternative. For outdoor and adventure festivals, where audiences value authenticity, this approach provides measurable impact without complexity or vague promises.

The Banff Scandinavia–Minpact collaboration shows how events can move beyond symbolic gestures towards real, lasting climate responsibility.
