A model for sustainable events

The festival is working with Minpact to delete EU emission allowances, setting a new benchmark for credible climate action in the event sector. The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) is a large compliance carbon market where regulated companies must hold allowances for every tonne of CO₂ equivalent they emit. Deleting allowances removes them from compliance use and contributes to a tighter cap over time.

  • Immediate: Reductions take effect as soon as allowances are deleted
  • Transparent: Simple, verifiable, and governed by EU law
  • Permanent: Deleted allowances cannot return

About the collaboration

Banff Scandinavia is using Minpact’s tools to support climate action through EU allowance deletion. For each tonne of CO₂ equivalent they choose to cover, an equivalent allowance is deleted from the EU ETS, creating a clear, registry-based audit trail for stakeholders.

Transparent climate action for events

With skepticism growing around traditional offsets, EU allowance deletion offers a transparent, scalable alternative. For outdoor and adventure festivals, where audiences value authenticity, this approach provides a high-certainty climate contribution with a clear audit trail.

The Banff Scandinavia–Minpact collaboration shows how events can move beyond symbolic gestures towards real, lasting climate responsibility.
